University of Oregon - Fine Art Program in Siena, Italy Department of Fine and Applied Arts School of Architecture and Allied Arts
The Department of Fine and Applied Arts offers a summer Fine Arts study program in Siena, Italy. Specific media offerings vary. The goal of the program is to introduce the student to the concept of documenting a cultural experience through the practice of art making and to gain a basic knowledge of the Italian language. In addition to regular classroom instruction and studio time, excursions are arranged which complement the work done in class. Daily contact with the historically significant monuments and culture of Siena and Florence provides the student with a hands on approach to cultural understanding. The experience is designed to encourage media exploration and critical thinking skills. Class work includes discussion of assigned reading, studio work and faculty and peer critiques. Each student is responsible for producing a journal research project at the end of the workshop. Students earn 6 hours of credit for 18 hours of studio work each week and 2 hours of credit for 5 hours of language class each week.
